If you follow our content regularly, you’ll know that our blogs are full of actionable tips and food for thought when it comes to learning and development.
So, now we’re turning our sights towards the new year, we thought we’d look ahead and pick 5 to thrive in 2025.
1) Think about the stories you tell yourself
Most things start with mindset and you’re probably familiar with limiting beliefs. The way we think and the stories we tell ourselves are probably the greatest barrier to achieving successful personal growth.
Earlier this year, we looked at the meaning of ‘generative language’ and how this can create a whole reality which sits at the heart of setting ourselves up for success. To set yourself up for success, make sure your beliefs match the story you are telling.
2) Use mentoring to help you extend your reach
Working with a mentor is often overlooked as an option, usually in favour of its more common ‘cousin’, coaching. Having a mentor means working with someone who can use their own knowledge and connections to help you get where you want to go.
It’s a powerful way to break down limiting beliefs because your mentor will be coming from a position of ‘proof’ that what you want to achieve can be done.
3) Embrace feedback
Feedback, when done in a qualitative way, is immensely powerful. By going beyond ‘happy sheets’ and seeking insights from a wide range of stakeholders, you build trust and credibility.
Organisations can help individuals to embrace feedback by building a ‘feedback ecosystem’ within their culture, making it a core component of the way they do business.
4) Work on your emotional intelligence (EQ)
EQ is something we can learn to be better at and the facts show it’s worth the investment of time; those with higher EQ reportedly earn more, secure the better jobs, and are even at a lower risk from heart disease.
To improve your emotional intelligence, you’ll need to focus on the four components of self-awareness, self-regulation, social awareness and social skills – and you’re not the only one who will benefit; leaders with higher EQ have higher performing teams too.
5) Practice what you’ve learnt
The best training and development outcomes happen when there’s an element of reality involved. Our brains are wired to remember when emotions and hard-coded experiences are involved as opposed to just theory so make sure to include practicing new skills in your own development.
Role play often draws a collective groan, but at Transform Performance we use something similar but a little less cheesy. It’s called Real Play and it is the missing piece of the puzzle when it comes to successful learning.
So, there you have it. Your top 5 ways to make your personal development thrive in 2025.
